JUNE 2018 -  BERKSHIRE COUNTY CALENDAR OF EVENTS

June 28 - July 1   FLYING PHOENIX QIGONG w/SIFU TERRY DUNN
Eastover Estate & Retreat Center
430 East Street
- Lenox, MA (866) 264-5139

An intensive Qigong workshop that teaches participants the essential core practice of Flying Phoenix Healing Chi (Fei Feng San Gung), a rare and extraordinarily powerful Qigong system created more than 400 years ago by Taoist sage named Feng Teh of Ehrmei Mountain in Xichuan province in western China. Flying Phoenix Qigong is a complete Taoist monastic system of hygienics --comprised of standing and seated, stationary and moving meditations that imparts a wide range of salient health benefits: increased respiratory power, improved circulation and metabolism, well-regulated sleep and resulting higher energy levels, improved neuro-muscular function and balance, strengthened immunity, increased bone strength, and the allostatic reversal of many signs of aging.

Terence Dunn is an expert instructor of Chinese martial, yogic, and healing arts with more than 40 years of training. Educated at Yale College and Harvard, he wrote the first protocol in American medical history applying therapeutic Taichi/Qigong to accelerate recovery from surgery. In 2000, Terry became the first Taichi trainer in the NBA, training the Los Angeles Lakers during their second championship season.

June 7 - 10   THE HEALING FORCES OF HAMONIC SOUNDS & VIBRATIONS WITH QIGONG - JAY EMMANUAL, A.K.,N.S.,V.M.
Eastover Estate & Retreat Center
430 East Street
- Lenox, MA (866) 264-5139

Magnetic-Harmonic Vibrational Therapist, Jay Emmanuel, A.K., N.S.,V.M. shares powerful energy techniques that use the forces of sounds produced by the human voice in combination with Himalayan and Alchemy Crystal Singing Bowls to activate the body’s natural self-healing response.

Jay Emmanuel calls his technique “Magnetic Harmonic Vibrational Therapy”; in this practice, he utilizes specific sounds and frequencies of vibrations together with “Parthonic Energy” and “Mind Energy in Action”. With this combination, he helps re-establish the proper harmonic tones and frequencies within the subtle energy fields of the body - including the Chakras, Etheric body, Auric energy field, and the physical body.

Jay believes every person possesses an infinite force that can activate his/her own “Inner Natural Pharmacy”. This inner macrocosmic force, encoded in our DNA archives, can bring upon regeneration and the natural healing process of the entire biophysical, mental, energetic or etheric body.

June 12 - 28   MANTAK CHIA'S UNIVERSAL HEALING TAO`INDIVIDUAL SESSIONS/NCBTMB CEU APPLY
Eastover Estate & Retreat Center
430 East Street
- Lenox, MA (866) 264-5139

Session 1: June 12-17 - Inner Alchemy Tao Basics
The Universal Healing Tao Week 1 training is for beginners and those wishing to become Associate Instructors. During this week, primary meditations will be studied: Cosmic Orbit, Cosmic Sounds, and Inner Smile.

Session 2A: June 17-22 - Fusion I & II, and Iron Shirt I
In the second week, the Fusion practice focuses on balancing negative and positive emotional energy and channeling the earth and universal forces using the eight forces of the Pakua. Negative energy is transformed and made to blend with positive energy which is then fused into a pearl of pure life-force energy. This pearl is circulated in the Microcosmic Orbit and is used to open channels.

Iron Shirt helps to develop a flexible, “steel-like” body by working with rooted standing meditation postures. These postures are the most effective way to ground your energy and stabilize your emotional body. Physically, they work to strengthen the fascia (connective tissue) which, in turn, protects the internal organs. In total, the standing postures and moving qigong techniques of Iron Shirt I create extraordinary health, strength, and vitality.

This retreat week is certification required-training for those who already know Basic Practices, have mastered them and want to be trained and certified to teach.

Session 2B: June 17-22 Chi Nei Tsang Massage Training – Hands on Healing w/Karin Sorvik
Taoist sages observed that humans often develop energy blockages in and around their internal organs that result in knots and tangles in the abdomen. These can constrict the flow of chi, eventually resulting in physical ailments. A powerful hands-on healing technique that utilizes the five major systems of the body: vascular, lymphatic, nervous, muscular, and chi. These systems are connected to the abdominal center, where unreleased stress and tension may cause obstructions. Through simple manipulations of the abdominal area, we can release physical, emotional, and mental resistance that can cause illness. Learn Five Element body diagnosis and how to transmit healing energy to others without depleting one’s energy. This powerful practice is long-lasting and can be used for self- healing. Session 3, Section B: Further Chi Nei Tsang with Tok Sen - June 22-28 w/Mary Ellen Derwis

This week offers NCBTMB CEU credits for massage/bodywork therapists.

Session 3A: June 22-28
Healing Love: Natural Hormones, Stem Cell and Golden Elixir Qigong with Master Mantak Chia, Dr George Yu and Karin Sorvik
As we are living longer than ever before, we need to grasp the concept of “maintenance and rejuvenation” throughout our lives and to find the best ways to live with vitality and vigor in the years we have ahead of us.

Taoist philosophy states that all the best medicines and good food in the world cannot help one achieve longevity unless one knows and practices the Tao of sexual cultivation. Great sex bolsters the immune system, strengthens internal organs, enhances our emotional wellbeing, and inspires creativity. Considered to be one of the three treasures of life, sexual energy is the foundation for our life-force energy and spiritual awareness.

June 15   THE DECEMBERISTS
MASS MoCA
1040 MASS MoCA Way
 - North Adams, MA (413) 662-2111

Storied indie-folkers The Decemberists, known for spinning fantastical tales into folk-rock opuses, have churned out nine albums and earned a Grammy-nom since they got together in Portland, Oregon, at the dawn of the millennium. Garnering comparisons to early Wilco, Neil Young, and R.E.M. — the band pairs hyper-literate lyrics with upbeat-pop, grungy prog-rock, and rustic country, resulting in a live show that The Chicago Tribune describes as "[striking] a balance between formality (three-piece suits, glasses of wine) and fun (tongue-in-cheek remarks, spontaneous musical snippets) — the members looked as if they were having a blast."

June 16   GRIZZLY BEAR
MASS MoCA
1040 MASS MoCA Way
 - North Adams, MA (413) 662-2111

One of the most celebrated indie rock acts of the last two decades, Grizzly Bear's prog-rock-meets-chamber-pop sound took the music world by storm and helped to define a new wave of psychedelic-leaning sound. After a notable hiatus, the quartet is back touring for its first new album in five years, Painted Ruins. The band’s most synth-heavy and beat-driven album to date, Painted Ruins landed on most "best of" lists in 2017, including Rolling Stone, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and USA Today. Pitchfork notes Grizzly Bear’s “intricate compositions…are bound tighter than ever, evoking distant images and emotions that continually shift in and out of focus.”

Grizzly Bear joins a packed summer concert lineup — including Ray LaMontagne with special guest Neko Case (June 29), Courtney Barnett (July 12), and The Decemberists (June 15) — when it takes the stage under the stars in MASS MoCA's Courtyard D on Saturday, June 16, at 8pm.

June 16   PITCHFORK
MASS MoCA
1040 MASS MoCA Way
- North Adams, MA
(413) 662-4111
"Beautiful...glorious...a powerful live band." – Pitchfork
Grizzly Bear started as a home recording project in 2004. Just two years later, they were rubbing shoulders with the likes of Radiohead, Arcade Fire, and Dirty Projectors. As the band's popularity grew — quickly snowballing into one of the most distinguished indie rock acts of the new millennium — its sound did too, expanding into a technicolor mash of prog rock, low-fi psychedelia, and chamber pop. After a notable hiatus, the band that was cool before Pitchfork was cool is back with new music — and the authorities over there say its "tighter than ever."

June 16   CONCERT
St. Paul's Episcopal Church
29 Main Street
- Stockbridge, MA (413) 528-5311

Please come enjoy a late afternoon summer concert with music of two great composers of the baroque, François Couperin and J.S. Bach, to celebrate their 350th and 333rd anniversaries respectively. The program will be approximately one hour long and played without intermission.

The epitome of French baroque sensibility, Couperin's music transports us to an understanding of beauty as it was perceived long before the onslaught of the modern world we live in. It stirs passions long forgotten and yet vital, and reaches for and helps us touch a high spiritual ideal. On the program are selections of his beautiful music for violas da gamba and keyboard and superb solo keyboard music. Bach's music transports similarly, but Bach's unique penetration of the spiritual is more cosmically mathematical, with masterful, awe inspiring interplay of intricate patterns and harmonies, combined with Lutheran sensibility and devotion. On the program is one of his wonderful sonatas for viola da gamba and obligato harpsichord: a delightful play of imitation, accompaniment, contradiction and support among three voices: one in the viol, two in the harpsichord.

June 20 - 22   TAICHI ALCHEMY: YANG CHENG FU's 13 ORIGINAL POSTURES w/RICK BARRETT
Eastover Estate & Retreat Center
430 East Street
- Lenox, MA (866) 264-5139

Traditionally, taijiquan is taught from the “outside in” - that is, one learns the movements and over years of practice (if at all) only gradually becomes aware of the internal power that makes it so effective. This seminar reverses that by showing how to access “jin” (power) from the start, and how to inculcate that into each movement of a taijiquan form. Yang Cheng Fu’s 13 Original Postures was learned by Rick from Master Yang Fukui, who was taught by his great grand-uncle in Hubei Province, China. Practices included in this Very ambitious program: The Three Pillars - How to access a rooted, coherent, whole-body energetic connection - even under duress and how to access Super Conscious awareness FAST.

It is a short, powerful large-frame form that can be
learned in a weekend.

The world is full of strange phenomena that challenge the way we understand ourselves. I’m drawn to the extreme, the rare but often deeply revealing phenomena. I’m trying to form as accurate a picture of human potential as possible.

The project calls for a gradual piecing together of many elements from various sources. The interesting phenomena prompt us to ask: What does this matter to me, going forward? Of course, you might not want to probe too deeply. Phenomena are sometimes ignored because they can’t be explained, or because they challenge our assumptions…

June 29   BELA FLECK AND THE FLECKTONES
Tanglewood
297 West Street
- Lenox, MA
(617) 266-1492
Groundbreaking banjoist/composer/bandleader Béla Fleck has reunited with the original Béla Fleck & The Flecktones members, the extraordinary initial line-up of his incredible combo. While all manners of genres come into play in their music - from classical and jazz to bluegrass and African music to electric blues and Eastern European folk dances - the result is an impossible to pigeonhole sound all their own, a meeting of musical minds that remains, as ever, utterly indescribable.
