July 1 - September 17    ELLSWORTH KELLY: SLOW CURVE AND FRUITS & FLOWERS
The Hyde Collection

161 Warren Street - Glens Falls, NY (518) 792-1761.
Ellsworth Kelly created Diagonal with Curve XII, Blue #611 for his friends, Werner Feibes and James Schmitt. In conjunction with the opening of the Feibes & Schmitt Gallery, this exhibition of more than 70 prints examines Kelly’s experimentation with curved fields of color, from tight ellipses and shapes with rounded corners to broad arcs and segments. Many of these geometric shapes derived from his simple line-drawn images of nature. Twenty-six prints from his Plant Series will form a small companion exhibition in the Whitney-Renz Gallery. All the works come from the extensive collection of Ellsworth Kelly prints belonging to the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation in Portland, Oregon.

July 1 - September 9    GREAT BARRINGTON ARTS MARKET
Church Street - Great Barrington, MA
Announcing the opening of the 5th annual Great Barrington Arts Market (GBAM). GBAM offers visitors the opportunity to buy unique art and craft made by local artisans in a variety of media and price ranges. The market has a new home on Church Street, just outside the Farmer’s Market from 9am-1pm on Saturdays this summer.

GBAM seeks to bring local artists directly to market with potential customers and adds another exciting destination to Great Barrington’s already vibrant Saturday mornings. Our new location makes it even easier and more convenient to enjoy shopping for local gifts.

Market founders Kathryn Burkle and Molly de St André are both artists (of KathrynBee Designs and Moho Designs) who loved the idea of helping connect other local craftspeople with a viable market opportunity and wanted to see Great Barrington’s outdoor Saturday market expand. They believe that the Farmer’s Market shopper recognizes how important it is to support the local economy and that a venue for artists to sell their work directly to the community is an obvious match to the Farmer’s Market. In a community where so many residents believe in the importance of keeping dollars local, GBAM offers locals and tourists another fun and interesting weekend activity and is quickly becoming a summer Saturday tradition.

The Market will be held on every Saturday between June 17 and September 9th, and will feature 8 local artists including Dan Bellows, Crispina ffrench, Berkshire Four Poster, JK Custom Furniture & Design, Ellen Grenadier, Aubry

July 4   4TH OF JULY PARADE
North Street
- Pittsfield, MA
The Pittsfield 4th of July Parade has an historic reputation dating back to 1824, when the procession consisted of Revolutionary War survivors, patriots, politicians and horse-drawn carriages. The parade was held off and on by various citizen groups until 1947 when it was taken over by the Pittsfield Permanent Firemen’s Association. Under the firemen, the parade grew in size and popularity but was discontinued in 1976. In 1977, a small group of volunteer citizens obtained $2,000 in seed money from the City of Pittsfield and held their first parade in 1978. Over the years, this independent, non-profit organization-the Pittsfield 4th of July Parade Committee, Inc.- has grown in size, spirit, and determination, and with it, the parade has grown in size, quality, and popularity.

87 MASS MoCA Way - North Adams, MA (413) 662-2111.
“Like Bonnie Raitt, a musician to whom she has often been compared, Ms. Obsborne is a fiercely intelligent, no-nonsense singer-songwriter who is allergic to traditional pop sentimentality, though hardly devoid of feeling… She treats Mr. Dylan as fellow troubadour and roustabout, inventing the rules while traveling along an endless road. Mr. Dylan’s songs are so deeply ingrained in the culture, it’s a wonder more singers haven’t devoted entire concerts to his songs.” (The New York Times) We’ll be outside with this beloved talent for a concert of our favorite songs.

July 8 - 9   THE STAMP COLLECTION: A PLAY BY VAL COLEMAN
Sandisfield Arts Center
5 Hammertown Road
- Sandisfield, MA
(413) 258-4100
The Sandisfield Players present The Stamp Collection, an original play by Val Coleman directed by Benjamin Luxon, on Saturday, July 8th at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 9th at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for children.

A play in six scenes, The Stamp Collection is set in Val Coleman’s childhood home in southern Illinois. Full of tenderness and humor, it is a story of pacifism, faith, and sanity interrupted by the wars of the 20th Century. The play takes place in an overcrowded antique shop owned by WWI veteran Shirley Trimble and his wife Olga, who suffers from hemophilia. Their neighbor Beverly Reynolds tells the story, both as a 10-year old boy and an aging narrator.

Coleman is the author of 5 plays and a book of short stories. He says, “This play is about the folks you grew up with … square in the middle of the 20th century, surrounded by two world wars. They are brave, strong folks who are ultimately what Yeats called ‘the vital center’ … the heart of the nation, brimming with love, faith, and prairie poetry.”
The Sandisfield Players are sponsored in part by Brockman Real Estate.

The historic Sandisfield Arts Center is home to a vibrant selection of performances, exhibits and workshops. Located on Route 57 and Hammertown Road, the restored building is on the National Register of Historic Places. For tickets and information, visit sandisfieldartscenter.org.

July 15   MAD MAX WITH LIVE SCORE MY MORRICONE YOUTH
MASS MoCA

July 20 - August 13   INTIMATE APPAREL
Shakespeare & Co
70 Kemble Street
- Lenox, MA
(413) 637-3353
The first female playwright to win the Pulitzer Prize twice, Lynn Nottage explores the strength of the human spirit through the story of Esther, an African-American seamstress in Manhattan in 1905, when social and class lines were distinctly drawn. A letter arrives and romance is sparked, betrayal is born, and six lives are forever changed. Winner of the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award.

"...the lyric and powerful expressive writing of playwright Lynn Nottage. She's an actor's gift with sly one-syllable humorous punch words; poetic paintings of physical and emotional landscapes; dramatic conflict that pulls no punches and is not afraid to make sympathetic characters unsympathetic; and an intimate knowledge of loneliness and passion."

Only a few artists in history have been capable of defining an entire era in pop music. Ronnie Spector is one of those artists: the embodiment of the heart, soul, and passion of female rock and roll in the 1960s. And to this day, no one has ever surpassed Ronnie`s powerful trademark vocals, her gutsy attitude, or her innocent but knowing sexuality. For these qualities and more, Ronnie Spector and the Ronettes, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in March 2007.

116 Old Route 22 - Hillsdale, NY  (646) 269-9216.
Oldtone Productions has announced the first annual SuperTone Music Festival; a day long music and arts event which will benefit the Hillsdale Fire Company. The festival will feature a unique blend of young & fresh Country, Rock and Roots music in an intimate setting, contrasting the region’s larger festivals. The producers strive to create a family friendly community atmosphere, much like the Oldtone Roots Music Festival, which takes place in September. Local food and Arts vendors will be featured throughout the day. Producer Jim Wright stated; “Rain or shine, this event is sure to ROOT & ROCK the 3,800 square foot barn set in beautiful rolling Roe Jan Park hills of Hillsdale, NY.”

The eclectic lineup will perform on two stages in the barn and includes: JP Harris & Chance McCoy (of Old Crow Medicine Show), R. Ring (Feat: Kelley Deal from The Breeders), Bat Fangs (hard rock from Washington DC), Hudson Valley favorites: Mail The Horse, traditional country from New Orleans: Jon Hatchett Band and locals The Wayside Drifters, Sasha Pearl, and a very special solo set from Ian Felice.

An evening meal option will be the Hillsdale Fire Company’s local favorite BBQ chicken dinner, for which advance reservations are suggested. Tickets for the dinner will also be available on the ticket website. Local and farm to table food vendors will be serving lunch and dinner all day. A beer and wine bar will feature local libations.

A Portion of the proceeds for the SuperTone Music Festival will go to benefit the Hillsdale Fire Company.

July 29 - 30   MASSACHUSETTS RENAISSANCE FAIRE
Cummington Fairgrounds
97 Fairgrounds Road
- Cummington, MA
(860) 294-9519
Every year, when the moon shines in just such a way, the veil between this world and the Fairy realm becomes thin. This is when the Market of the Moons appears.
Each year the Market is attended by two royal fairy courts: The winter court, led by Queen Mab, and the summer court, led by Queen Titania.
The faire will feature performances, live music, food, and vendors throughout the weekend.
One of the biggest events at the faire this year will be jousting by Spur of the Moment.
Brightly attired knights on their beautiful and decorated steeds will battle at the jousting field and show off their skills in games involving precision and timing.
The faire will also feature the Knights of Lord Talbot, an education based reenactment group featuring unscripted armored combat demos and a historical encampment dating from the end of the Hundred Years War.
The knights will battle in full armor with actual weapons for the entertainment and amazement of faire-goers.
The faire will also feature a number of music based acts throughout the day.
These include Below the Gaff, a pirate-themed band that sings Irish folk songs, sea shanties and original pirate tunes, the L.I.A.R.S., a performance troupe of sultry songstresses who blend pretty harmonies, wry wit, and an unabashed love of terrible puns into incredible stage shows, and The Creepy Bard, who will regale visitors with songs of drinking, roving, fighting, and things to keep secret from your mother.
There will be a number of activities for faire-goers old and young alike.
You can prove your wit with a game of Fairy Chess, prove your strength in a round of Fight the Knight, or prove your daring in the Goblin Tunnels.
The musically inclined will find kindred spirits on July 29 during the Sidhe Jam, a tradition Irish jam session.
For those who are looking for a quiet place or to hear a good tale, the Enchanted Book Nook will be open throughout the weekend and will feature author readings.
Faire-goers can also follow members of the summer court and winter court as the tale of Winter Wit’s End unfolds before their very eyes.
And when the sun goes down, the faire doesn’t stop.
At 7 p.m. July 29 the Market of the Moons After Hours begins with breathtaking performances and uproarious live music.
The After Hours, which is for people 18 years old and older, will feature sideshow performances by Karnevil, fire acts by Sasha the Fire Gypsy, and adult shopping.
Tickets are $15 a day or $25 for a two day pass for adults and $10 a day or $17 for a two day pass for children from 6 to 15 years old. Children under 6 years old are free.
