July 12   COURTNEY BARNETT
MASS MoCA
1040 MASS MoCA Way
- North Adams, MA
(413) 662-2111
Courtney Barnett broke into the music scene with an uppercut punch — her sardonic lyrics and deadpan delivery propelled her from slinging drinks at a Melbourne bar to become an indie-rock darling and global sensation at just twenty-four years old. She infuses her plainspoken lyrics with a wit and wisdom beyond her years, and in concert matches it with a driving guitar that instantly brings every audience to its feet.

After her 2015 debut album and lauded single Avant Gardener stirred up critical and cult success — Rolling Stone called it the year's "sharpest debut" — Barnett teamed up with War on Drugs' Kurt Vile for Lotta Sea Lice, a clever and carefree collaborative album that nearly every authoritative music mag gushed over. Nameless Faceless, her sophomore solo effort to be released in May, was named as one of both Rolling Stone and Pitchfork's most anticipated albums of 2018.

Barnett will spend the summer headlining festival after festival — she's already been building buzz for her first trip to Newport Folk. We're thrilled to have her in North Adams for a concert with her whole band.

This one is planned for MASS MoCA's concert courtyard stage — tickets are limited and are expected to sell quickly. Cameroon-born multi-instrumentalist Vagabon opens the show in a bill that takes our breath away. Join us under the stars for this one, on July 12 at 8pm.

What sets [Barnett] apart is she's got a sense of songwriting that hearkens back to the creative burst of the late '60s. Specifically in California — her melodies and psychedelic harmonies remind me of the work of David Crosby or John Phillips.
— Brooklyn Vegan

July 14   TOOLS FOR SPIRITUAL HEALING w/ANNE MAGDALENE
Eastover Estate & Retreat Center
430 East Street
- Lenox, MA
(866) 264-5139
Join Anne Magdalene as she walks participants through a variety of spiritual healing techniques, offering insight and guidance with Spirit, explaining how these techniques can assist one in working through the spiritual wounds we have brought with us to this lifetime, and the wounds we have created in this current lifetime. Anne will work with the group on specific areas in their lives, with which they are seeking change, whether it is relationships, career, life’s purpose, or physical health.

This is an interactive workshop, in that participants will be afforded sacred space to share, and Anne will give feedback as to how these challenges came to be, and dig deeper with the participants as to what actions they are ready and willing to make.
At the completion of the workshop, participants will feel inspired to implement these skills into their daily lives, and watch their lives begin to change, as their souls ascend to new heights.

Be ready to walk into the future you’ve always dreamed of.

Alan Cumming is many things to many people – renaissance man, style icon, social activist, bon viveur - but to himself he is a story-teller and provocateur for hire.

July 15   CONNECTING EAST & WEST: A NEW SPIRITUAL PATH FOR THE 21ST CENTURY w/JOHN MONTGOMERY
Eastover Estate & Retreat Center
430 East Street
- Lenox, MA
(866) 264-5139
What exactly is ‘spirituality’ and what does it mean to be a ‘spiritual’ person? Although this is a complicated issue, almost any spiritual seeker would probably agree that spiritual experiences involve feelings of connection or love that flow inwards and outwards – towards oneself and others, towards ‘God,’ or towards the ‘universe’ as a whole.

This workshop will show and suggest that the force of love arises directly from the ‘homeostatic drive,’ the core biological force within us that operates in all of our cells, organs, and tissues, and that seeks to achieve and sustain states of homeostasis, or equilibrium, at all levels. Although the homeostatic drive is the fundamental biological force within us, at higher levels of awareness it gives rise to a spiritual force of enormous power – the force of love and self-love, the force that allows us to be connected to the ‘Tao,’ or the ‘flow’ of life, and the force that appears to represent what people have long felt and experienced as ‘God.’

John Montgomery received his Ph.D. in neuroscience from Caltech in Pasadena, California, and his B.A. in molecular genetics from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. He is the primary author of two books, and has written many professional articles as well as articles for publications such as Psychology Today, the Washington Post, and the Economist. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department at New York University and uses the Homeostasis Psychology method in private practice in New York City.

July 20 - 22   TAICHI ALCHEMY: YANG CHENG FU'S 13 ORIGINAL POSTURES w/RICK BARRETT
Eastover Estate & Retreat Center
430 East Street
- Lenox, MA (866) 264-5139

Traditionally, taijiquan is taught from the “outside in” - that is, one learns the movements and over years of practice gradually becomes aware of the internal power that makes it so effective. This workshop reverses this by showing how to access “jin” (power) from the start, and how to inculcate it into each movement of a taijiquan form. Practices included in this VERY ambitious program: The Three Pillars - How to access a rooted, coherent, whole-body energetic connection - even under duress and how to access Super Conscious awareness. It is a short, powerful large-frame form that can be learned in a weekend.

Rick Barrett has been teaching Chinese internal martial arts and practicing energy healing in New York City for over a quarter century, and has been studying for almost forty years. His two primary teachers are Masters William C. C. Chen and Yang Fukui.

July 26 - 29   TAO TAN PAI QIGONG w/MASTER TERRY DUNN
Eastover Estate & Retreat Center
430 East Street
- Lenox, MA (866) 264-5139

Tao Tan Pai 31 Postures/Meditations is the basic health and self-healing Qigong training of the Tao Tan Pai Kung Fu system - an authentic Taoist monastic system originated during China’s Tang Dynasty and attributed to Lu Deng Bin, the leader of the Eight Taoist Immortals (saints) preserved for 23 generations, mostly at the Ancient Temple of the Yellow Dragon near Mt. Luohu. Tan Pai Qigong traditionally has been the secret engine that develops the natural body mechanics and tangible superabundance of energy that empowers the Tao Tan Pai Kung Fu. It is the perfect complement and support for any athletic activity besides martial arts.

Terence Dunn is an expert instructor of Chinese martial, yogic, and healing arts with more than 40 years of training. Since 1990, he has popularized Tai Chi Chuan, an authentic Qigong practice throughout America and Europe through his highly acclaimed Tai Chi for Health and Chi Kung For Health DVD programs. Educated at Yale College and the Harvard Business School, he wrote the first medical protocol in American medical history applying therapeutic Tai Chi and Qigong exercises to accelerate recovery from major surgeries. In 2000, Terry became the first Tai Chi trainer in the NBA, training the Los Angeles Lakers during their second championship season.
